I realize fish are small pet's but it's a start considering his first choice was a buffalo or a whale. Although at the pet store he really liked the turtles. No dogs for this boy. He is still afraid of them. I know he will outgrow it eventually so I am not worried. However he is convinced that Bapa needs a giraffe because we learned that giraffe's eat leaves and grass and Ethan keeps saying "But Bapa has tons of grass and trees for a giraffe". It makes perfect sense to him. :)
He loves his fish shark and takes very good care of it.

Our fish (along with the little frog) are our kids first pets too. They would love a dog but seeing that B is allergic to them a fish will have to do.
I love E's idea of a pet giraffe. Your parents do have a large backyard perfect for one :D
Kylee had a fish as her first pet too..they make great first pets. You can move onto a buffalo next. :)
