Isaac Jonathan Thomas

I am very happy to say that Isaac Jonathan Thomas is here! He was born on 10-22-2010 at 11:44 pm. Isaac weighed in at 9lbs 10 oz and is 22 inches long.  He was a big boy.

The delivery went great. I started having contractions a few days before and actually went to the maternity center to be checked out. My midwife wasn't on call so I just saw the on call Dr. She didn't think I was progressing fast enough so she sent us home. Luckily we had a dr. apt the very next day. When I went in I was 5cm and my midwife didn't seem to happy they sent me home. She believed that my uterus was so large because of the amount of fluid and based on how I measured that my body physically couldn't produce stronger contractions. The fibers couldn't connect to produce stronger contractions. The ones I was having for two days were as strong as they could get. So she sent us over to the hospital so she could break my water.

As my midwife predicted (she actually sent me to an MD who said I didn't have to much fluid) I had a lot of fluid. And when I say a lot...I mean a lot. Basically she had to jump out of the way LOL and that happened 4 times. Once they broke my water they started me on pitocin to get the contractions stronger and 5.5 hours later Isaac was here. It was a good delivery and I only pushed for 30 mins (very proud of that BTW). As my midwife was thinking...he was a little on the big size (and that same MD said he wasn't very big and maybe 8lbs).  I did loose a lot of blood a few hours after delivery. They estimated about 2 liters of blood. (a non-pregnant adult has on average 5 liters of blood if you didn't know). That resulted in me coming as close to passing out as you can get (had to use smelling salts)....twice. Luckily my bleeding was gotten under control and the rest of our stay was uneventful.

Isaac was perfectly healthy after delivery. His blood sugars were low (common in large babies) for the first few hours of his life so those were closely monitored...luckily they stabilized. He has the most perfect baby complexion I have ever seen. I think it was all the fluid LOL.

Isaac is so perfect in every way and we are so blessed to have him in our family. I am a very lucky girl with 3 boys who I love so so much!

Isaac is officially one week old now. These are just a few things I want to remember from his first weeks:

  • Had first dr. apt and weighed 9lbs 2 oz.
  • Love loves loves to sleep with mommy and to cuddle
  • Had days and nights mixed up (I think we might have that fixed...yay)
  • Eats a lot! Had to supplement for the first couple days until I could catch up. He is a great nurser so far
  • Grew out of newborn diapers
  • Umbilical Cord fell off on day 8
  • Very much loved by his big brother
  • Went to target for the first time
  • Celebrated his first Halloween
  • Went to daddy's work for a Halloween party with Ethan
And now, what I know you all really want...pictures :)

Turn your head tot the left to look at this picture. For some reason blogger is forcing it this way. :(
